1975 Mercury 150ss J-block vintage outboard complete-for sale
This engine was going to go on a project boat, but it has been sitting too long. I am only the second owner since new. Last run fall 2012; fogged and sitting in storage since. Completely restored by myself and Bill Gohr in 2007-08. All new wiring, fuel lines, new pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, new upper and lower XS mounts, gearcase gone through. This is an original Mercury 1975 1500 short shaft engine with original numbers-matching J block. The only non-stock items are some very mild clean-up porting, as well as Twister TII aluminum flywheel. Has original paint and decals--not refinished. Last gone through by George Fuller at Fuller's Marine in summer 2012. Build quality 10/10, appearance 9.5/10 (as noted, original-not redone). Decals and finish are excellent. Comes complete with original MerControl box and wiring harness, trim pump, and (2) original Mercury red 6-gallon fuel tanks in excellent condition. Really a nice package for someone interested in a complete 1500 J ready to install and run on a vintage boat. The only thing I would do before running is perhaps replace water pump (but it was new in 2012). Runs excellent, videos and more photos available on request. $3750 complete, email jtigerjr@hotmail.com or call 518/469-3700. Can possibly help with delivery on east coast, or as far west as Michigan.

Great looking motor John.
If you look his title does not say 1500XS. This is a 1500 Short Shaft that has a factory correct J block. The J block (xsblock) came out late 1974 and was used in the Blue band motors in 1974 and 1975 before the launch of the 1500xs in 1976.
I have the exact same motor. Its my favorite.
Conrad
PS the 1150 sticker was put on for Boat regulations is what John said earlier I think. I think the boat was only rated for 115 so the 150 sticker was taken off and the 115 added.L6fan57-88

You Said:Decal should be RED 1500 xs...
The BLUE decals are correct for a SS J block in 1975. Even late 1974 the J block was in these SS 1500's

This is no longer for sale. I re-installed it on my Viper and I will keep it.
Thanks for the inquiries.
