1977 evinrude 75hp information
Can anyone give me any information on this motor lower unit ect serial number comes back as a 1977 75hp but it looks like a 1990 70hp last raced in 1992 compression numbers are 135-140-135 and seems to run good through transom trim..

That appears to be a combination of parts from different year 75s. The cowl is definitely a 1989-90 version. The powerhead appearsto be a mid to late 1980s by the looks of the ignition system components, carbs, linkage and airbox. If it has good compression and runs well, it's a great start. I can't see the boat well but it appears to be a 1970s-8s SE tunnel. Are you going to restore it and run it?

Im probaly not going to restore the boat your right se tunnel it has some front end damage dont think im up to fixing it .Was just trying to figure out what the motor actually is.Ill probaly end up parting it out I would like to get the steering back to a normal tube type cable and get rid of the through transom trim. The boat supposedly won its class back in the 80's and early 90's here in region 11 I edited the pics in the post do you think its a stock gearcase??

No it is not stock. It appears to have a nosecone added and water pickups modified, similar to the factory stock SST-60 gearcase (but this does not appear to be a SST-60 case). It's too bad it's so far West, that rig would make a great candidate for restoration and then display/run in APBA Outboard Vintage & Historic division. The reason the serial comes back as a 77 75 is because the serial is either on the clamp bracket or on a plug in the block, or both, and either the block or midsection (or possibly both) are from a 77. But over the years, many of these engines were modified with other-year parts and/or assemblies, or even assembled from parts from many different but same CI and HP (49.7 ci, 75 hp) engines.

It's got the 1983-later fuel primer system on it. (no choke plates on the carbs) Also a non-matching light silver head. The powerhead is painted the same color as the rest of the motor. OMC powerheads went to all black paint somewhere in the mid 80's. The lower is later, it's got a swept skeg- The gearcases went to 4-hole water intakes in 84-you can see the top two intakes have been filled. The VRO pump came out on the 85 models.
