took checkmate for test run today-results-
Took my 1977 16'2 checkmate trimate for a test drive today. Stock 1980 85 johnson 5 inch setback cavitation plate bout 1.5 above bottom turning a 13 1/2 x 24 raker at 5300 5400 rpms at 51 52 mph wit me, cooler,tools box,battery and 12gallons of gas. I was impressed on how good it rode believe if i lower motor lil bit more i can pick up a couple more mph

Why would you gain speed by lowering? I would check to see what that engine will turn and either work on your height or prop to get the most.
btw, 52 is pretty good I'd think but do still question the rpms.You never know what your faith is, until your faith has been truly tested.

Engine doesn't seem to b slipping with that small rpm I have a 15 whaler with 115 omc n a 22 raker &@6500 I'm at 63 mph on gps I'm yet to try the 24 raker cuz it accelerates so hard with the 22
