It was a prototype. Never went into production. OMC actually created & produced the two-stroke, air-cooled "Lawn Boy" mowers. Thanx for posting the museum pix Dave.

What did you see? I have to admit I don't recall "Racing Legend Carl Perkins", but do recall his #1 hit Blue Suede Shoes , nothing else caught my eye.

There is a reference to 1250 BP "stackers" on a picture of Jan Schoonover's wing. Unfortunately, the motors pictured are 1100's.......
    20 Foot Switzer Wing 2 X S3000 (Dust'n the Wind II)
!6 foot Wood Eltro Vee (2X Merc 1500's) (Dust'n the Wind IV)
    15 foot Powercat 15C (2 X Merc 1500) (Dust'n the Wind III)
(Single engine boats are lacking something)
    15’ Wooden Switzer Shooting Star...
16 foot Lee Craft Merc S 3000-(Gold Dust II)
    (The exception proves the rule)

Wrong band member, the racing legend was Marshall Grant ... Carl Perkins was just a pit flunky. People who were there say that Carl was a very willing helper at the races. Not afraid to get his feet wet launching and recovering boats, lifting and pulling when asked; but I bet he didn't wear his blue suede shoes to the races

Saw that, thought it was just a "stand alone" statement ..... the 1350 stackers are pictured above the statement and the 1100 stackers below. My mind didn't tie it to the picture of the Flying Dutchman. Upon further review, I guess you could call that one either way, but they probably meant it the way you guys read it.

The one cool thing that I like is the apposed 4 cylinder thunder bolt prototype. It had one lightning style cylinder block and a mirror version for other block (intake and exhaust is on opposite side of the block casting). It also had a Bendix mag, assumed it had used duel wire coils, fired 2 cylinders at a time?

The other neat thing was a early 2 cylinder prototype engine that had a early version of the lightning block and case on it. If the dates are correct on the signs Merc had the block and case shape picked out and experimenting for what would later be the lightening for a few years before it came out . If you look off to the side in the pic of the drone engine you can see a silver engine look at the crank case it has a early lightening case shape to it.

Yes, most or all of the "old iron" opposed twin and quad motors fired both opposing cylinders at the same time, so it would have been quite normal for the prototype to follow suit.
