Do you think that the one you have is one of the two that was actually used to break the 100 mph speed barrier in 1967?

If you were to include hydroplanes, Gar Wood was the first to eclipse the 100 mph mark running 102.256 (164.565) through the kilo at Indian Creek, Fl. back on March 20, 1931 in the Miss America lX.

research has shown that only a few of these motors were available to NON Mercury team drivers. Sort through those few folks that had access to these and the info says that this engine MOST LIKELY was owned by Jan Schoonover. There are no records from Mercury that identify which engine and power head went to which driver.
Engines that were used by MERCURY team drivers would have never been made available to the public as they were turned in and probably destroyed by Merc when they were no longer useful.

Time frame is right, state of registration is right, engine mods are right, . the rest is speculation.

I believe I can prove that the other driver(s) that had access to this engine DIDNT own it. No way to prove it was on the wing when he set the record, BUT there were only a very very few available at that time especially to a guy from Ohio..

Makes for some interesting thoughts. What if .....
