    Omc/Brp Dfi motors

Im curious about the timeline of the Omc/Brp injected motors. What years are what, and what's the difference between them? Ficht, Direct Injected, E-Tec. Mainly 200-300hp. Thanks for any help.

    according to Wikipedia

    Ficht came out in 1996
    Bankruptcy in 2000
    Etec came out in 2003

Both Ficht and Etec what looks to me solenoid based injectors, but the devil is in the details, or in this case, the devil is in Ficht. We have a 115 HO Etec and love it.

Practically the difference is that Etec works.

The early engines are a headache.

The later 01 and up BRP ficht motors are pretty good engines. I have seen many with 1800-2600hours and they were hard commercial hours. They are 3.3L same block as E-tec and have similar performance/fuel economy. I had a 225 on my paramount and swapped it for an E-tec from one weekend to the other on the same trip economy, power, prop and weight were same. The e-tec solved a few problems even the later the fichts had like EMM, PDP and a couple other common issues.

I've had very limited experience with these motors and never really understood the difference in the three. The only differences I've distinguished are that the few e-tecs ive been in contact with have a comon intake area and three butterflies, I just picked up a 00' ficht 225 that has what looks like diamond looper intakes with six buterflies, a friend of mine has an 04' 250 direct injected that looks basically the same from the outside as my 225 ficht.

Yes an 00 front half and intake is same as the 04.

04 is 3.3, 01 is 3.0. Your 00 computer is slightly different, flywheel, lift pump, etc. etc.

The E-tecs have a different front half, reeds, reed plate, intake, heads, pistons, electronics, injectors, oiling and flywheel then 04 ficht.

Thanks baja200! Every piece of info I could find on this subject was 15+ pages of forums of people talking smack about OMC or BRP or the FICHT Injection with no real answers!

I like them, you can usually get them cheap blown because every one is scared of their reputation. The last couple I got had locator pin issues which trashed a sleeve or 2.

I have an 04 250 and bought it on a 25 foot cabin boat and have run it for 4 seasons with no problems! I've never pushed an outboard to the edge like a lot of you guys do but I've owned ALOT of motors and have never had an issue with OMC/BRP stuff! I read a lot about the OMC hotrodders and its impressive what they are capable of making those things do!

DBR would be very cool. I looked around and finally found an '02 BRP 250 for one of the boats and have had no problems. Some said it was ok if I found a 2001 but I put the extra year of comfort in there and found a 2002. Lotsa grunt.

Bankruptcy was late 2001, we recieved notification by Fax from Merc over the Christmas holiday. The first 3.3 was built for 01 year model by omc (took one to a magazine evaluation), the first engines to be BRP built were in 2002. First Ficht was the 60 degree engine built for 1998 model yr, first e-tec was the 3 cyl in 2004 model yr with the 3.3 version in 2005.
