My '04 250 has been a great motor it moves my cabin boat very well! The locator pin issues I hear about seem to be on the motors turning higher RPMs than the average fishing boat!!

I'm sure that running them up to the limiter doesn't help but they had a little bit of a problem with locator pins.

I would love to compare a 150HO to my franken eagle and see how it does. I am sure it will be better on gas, but the eagle motors start and run pretty well. Mine idles at 600 in gear all day long.

Like I tell all my customers...lack of use is the biggest killer of 2 stroke outboards. Do I like the DFI Rudes..no...but that doesn't mean they can't last a while with the right owner...same goes for the Opti's.

Correct, Omc built 01 engines in 2000 prior to bankruptcy and should have said for 02 model yr.

I feel better now that I waited and found a clean used 2002 Evinrude 250 DFI. It took a while. We've had no problems with it, very good motor and way less noise than I had expected. prior to purchase.

That means mine is due to break then, because I haven't used a gallon of oil in 2 years since it was rebuilt.

The very first E-TEC'S were the two cylinder 40-50hp in 2004. I bought one of the first ones for my 20ft pontoon boat. The TPS sticking was the only big issue from the factory and by time it happened on my engine, Evinrude knew about it and sent me a new intake and TPS sensor.

One example of BRP wasting their money. I fixed it with a few washers or something to that effect. It was to long ago to remember what I did but it was a solid fix. Some Engineer trying to keep his job costing the company millions. What got me is that the intake was exactly the same. Its still in a box somewhere lol.
