uim apba cockpit rules still have a way to go
Having the windscreen part of the opening hatch is asking for trouble and that has killed people.
They need to go to opening in the top only so the rest is structural

There is a potentiometer on the steering and loud pedal. With this group , there is no finger pointing other than ... make me one of these .. is it done yet ... ?

    • A pic of how high it carries the tail on the big end.
    • Here you go Charlie.....hope these pics answer your questions about the car motor hydros. I don't have the boat in my garage, so I can't throw a tape on it for you, but I think you can figure out the heights/depth we're running our rudder from the pics I've provided (close anyways).

    • Hey dude , I have hydro experience .. I had a Glen-L 8' hydro 47 year's ago ...

Without pointing a finger ( you know I'm good at that )
lets just say that there was an issue at the 8 inch mark of your top row center picture . I've beat around the bush , now like Forest Gump , I got nuttin else to say about rudders ..!

However , one of your other picture lends itself well to a point I made this morning ... thanks for that ...

And if you drive that blown alky hydro , I take back anything negative I might have said or even thought about ya ...

Climax,,,May I ask a question? Whats this boat weigh running in the water? You know, Race weight, with driver etc? Thanks

      Dry , it was 1018 with a 200 pound driver ...

I'm surprised it came in that light with the boat having a full "chassis" like it does.

If your not going with ti and don't already have your rudder material you might want to go with 7050 instead of the 7075 , airliners have all gone to it for wing skins ,it doesn't corrode/exfoiliate as bad and it has a much better for fracture resistance. You might also want to shot peen it in the area where it comes out of the bracket, the 3m flap peen for use in a die grinder works great for small areas and u can taper it off. Dave

From the drivers perspective The boat yaws Left at the beginning of the event suggesting the the leading edge of the rudder twisted under load pulling the rear of the boat to the Right. If it were just a side load break the boat would most likely snap/yaw Right when the LHR prop torque took over instantly pulling the rear of the boat tot he Left.
Was thinking the same. I dont believe in coincidence. Vegetation wrapped around it and greatly increased the load.

What pitch prop are you running now and what do you believe it will take for the top end? I know mine acts like that with a 34 pitch prop and runs straight with a 30. The 32 is doable but a little sketchy. The 34 almost killed me. Like you I only have a little bit of rudder to keep me straight. Im not saying our boats are similar but I get my big speed by not having much in the water as well.

It's 1:1 and turns around 8k u don't need anything near 34. I know his fishing motor pump gas v8 has a limiter around 7700 so a 28 would almost get it done.

    What a pig
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

i know but regardless the tail walk will get worse as pitch increases. Just wondering where its at now and where they expect to be.

Good Eye , AFR, was wandering just how long it would take for someone to really notice what causes the tail wiggle. The front sponsons literally steer the boat, actual steering is limited. Take someone with some bigs ones to get used to it. It starts to hunt, blows the tail and then go fo a ride. It can also do the same on shut down. Thanks To Everyone, Have a great and safe holiday weekend.

well i have a unfair advantage over most of these cats only a small handful have ever even drove hydroplane
designing your own boat makes you more aware of the tinyest thing
if it was me would add some more positive sponson angle so the tail pops quicker and help train that driver to hold it for long lower speed runs till he gets the hang of it
with that boat having so many adjustments available tuning with sponson angle will be the key
