Kind of low tempo over here during the holidays, but some smaller details in place, like drilling and tappning the closed deck block to accept the open deck check valve:

Btw does anyone know the difference between these to types of main bearings?
    Newer design?, better?

I don't know for sure but probably just a different supplier, new ones look like the one with circles on the sides not the raised areas... A more solid cage edge may retain oil better..Dave

Any difference in roller size. I measured between Merc and ProMarine on rod roller and Merc was smaller. Shorter - .0165

The hunt for details prior reassembly continues...
About the connecting rods; is it a good idea to polish the rod journals before reassembly? Like a slight hone creating som small scratches for the oil to stick to?
A slight rub by hand with 400 wet paper?

Yes, I always do anyway. I use a little 400 grit ball hone. By hand is fine too, just try to make cross hatches when doing it. Great thread btw.

Haven’t decided yet. The wider cage with slightly smaller rollers seems more solid in your hand, so I might use them instead.

No , different applications, Merc part vs Pro Marine . Metal cages ,old x flow but the difference surprised me , made it note worthy. A bit extra running surface may help.
