    1991 2.4 bridgeport efi // or mercury 225hp

i have a 1991 2.4 bridgeport im looking to run on my 1989 seabold 21' ski boat but having second thoughts,,was thinking about going with a mercury 225hp fishing motor 1997 an up on year ,,i have the mercury 150xr4 on it an it runs good just think its little under powered if anyone has sum info. or advice on which way i should go ,i know alot ppl dont like the bridgeports or the 2.5 L mercs are suppose to be better .im just looking for reliable motor to run ,i ocasionally pull a tube or skier but want the extra hp when out cruising//. i maybe looking to try an trade the bridgeport for a 225hp??

The Bridgeport is an awesome performer if you feed it good fuel and oil. 1990/91 was the last year for the Bridgeport, and has all the tricks and updates that corrected most of the issues with the earlier ones. I have nothing bad to say about these motors.

However, the 2.5L 225 ProMax is a better, newer design, and has similar performance to a 2.4 EFI Bridgeport.

The 3.0L 225 fishing motor (just to avoid any confusion) has lots of torque, but limited RPM range.
