235 Evinrude lower unit
I have a 1985 Evinrude 235 that I plan to put on my Hydrostream in the spring and while the lower on it looks like it has seen better days, Im not sure what nose cone is currently on it (Thinking its an old land and sea cone but not sure) but it has the water pick up at the top of the cone and not on the bottom so I want to put a bobs cone on it but by the looks of this one, I am thinking with the work that would go along with getting the old cone off and installing the new cone and then fixing the lower where it is broke I might be better of to just get a fresh case to start with. What I was wondering is, what lowers as far as year and HP will fit on this? Or do you think I should grind this cone off and use this lower and repair it? The motor is a solid motor and it runs great, just that this lower looks like heck and I would rather have a lwp on it.
Thanks for any advice or input.-Kevin

I,d grind it all off, but not likely it will be useable. Any v6 cross-flo lower should fit,and not hard to find thanks.

You can get the cavitation plate welded. I think I would put a new cone on it. That cone, the water holes are above the point of the bullet or below?
Or if you replace it, V6 crossflows will bolt up. The loopers will work but you'll need to change the drive and shift shafts.
2 other things, that exhaust snout... Most people have told me that cutting holes and screwing it on that the mid will eventually crack. So I had mine welded on.
If you can find some solid mounts, that would be a plus.

Its a bobs cone for flats/bass boats.
All you have to do is strip all the filler off it and get down to the metal. Plug all the holes above the bullet with epoxy and drill three 1/4" holes under the bullet where bobs cone normally has them. Then do all the body work every year as usual

Good to see you making progress Hippie! Can't wait to see the Vulture running. I know you have been at this project for a while. I just had my snout and tab welded on Friday and I'm trying to finish out the Marinetex fairing if it quits raining today. Don't use any body filler! Did Chet get his new boat going? Later, Silkeysak

Good to know. I never looked at the "Shallow Runner" nose cone they offer. Looks just like it. Thank you for the tip.
Would painting it black help?
I cant wait to get it running either. As for Chet, What boat? He wrecked the vking with only about 4 hours on the boat then got a DR and this spring he had a steering cable let loose at about 90mph and barrel rolled it. He said it looks fixable but not sure what he is going to do with it just yet. Then he put a fresh 280 powerhead on his viper and last weekend on his second pass at the races a piston came apart on him. He sure is rough on boats. lol Sounds like he might slow down with the whole racing thing and drag the Vegas out and put together a fast lake boat and do that for a bit.-Kevin

The DR is the boat I was talking about. I know Chet pushes the limits but WOW! Glad he made it through all that without too serious of an injury. I hope I never experience any of that. Anyway, get that Vulture out there!
