    why no verado?

why is there so little talk about merc verado are they no good? my guess is too heavy for most of the boats here i drive a 22 velocity and my 3.0 seems heavy for the boat but i do see verados with 1500 hours still running strong any comments

You would break the clamp with some real abuse in my opinion

    Hi!

i have a Vrod 350 sci and thats the best engine I ever had. A Promax 300 with SVS & recal computer was slow in comparison. I also had 2 x 2,5 efi ss with Brucato ecu and twin spark Johnson V8 GT 3.6 litre.

A 300 xs weights in at approx 250 kg with hydraulic steering. 350 sci weights in at 314 incl steering and oil. Thats 140 lb heavier. On smaller boats its to much. On my Phantom 25 it does not matter.

Swivel bracket is stronger than both PM 300 and 2.5 efi ss in my opinion. I have broken off a couple.

    Happy boating!

    cheers Toffen

That is interesting feedback Toffen on the transom clamp bracket being stronger. I always thought the ROS bracket was considered to be the "toughest".

Toffen would know for sure i saw a clip of him running and he runs hard in any water!! Still remember your bad flip toffen you had someone on your site that day. Its to bad they cant make a verodo in the 500lb range with close to 300hp. The 200hp vrod is lighter can they be made to have more HP? The 200 Straight 4 is the same weight as the 250XS. Can a sm with 1.62 gears be made to fit? if you could up the boost and make about 50 or so more HP out of this motor and raise the limitter to 7000+ it might be a cool motor on the back of some of our smaller hulls. A 15inch mid Verodo would look cool also.

Hmm interesting I just found a thread on a water ski site were they talk about chipping the ecu on the verado for another 100 hp? That would make the 200 a 300 at the same weight of the XS motors? Interesting read. http://www.letstalkskiracing.com/for...show=10&page=7

The smaller 4s in the Verado are virtually all the same (hard parts) from 135 on up.
The 200 has some internal parts changes and a smaller SC than the inline 6s.
A+100hp reflash not happening on the 4 cyls. Not that much meat on the Bone.
The Verados do come with 6" set back built in the engine itself that needs to be factored into the weight equation for comparison.
Serious quiet engine, some supertuners will figure how to shed a few pounds from that frame.
Agreed The 15" mid would be awesome.

Makes sense. i guess they were only refering to the Sixes with the reflash thing. You know who does it? If anyone?

The Sportmaster needs the driveshaft changed to the smaller Verado splines, otherwise bolts right on.

Toffen has seen what the torque and RPM of the 350 SCi can do. The L6 probably needs to stay on hulls over 21', but they do plane, cruise, and rev nicely. All the Verados make significant boost at 1000 RPM on up.

The stock Verado's all have 6400 RPM prop range, the 350 SCi max prop range is 6800.

A friend is thinking of putting a 200 (L4 version) on his Allison GS, could be a nice package. Once you drive a DTS unit with power steering, it is really hard to go back, as I think Toffen will attest.

    Hi!

My dream will be a Vrod 400 sci. Then I will get the ol lady to run 86-88 mph. Not bad for a 30 years old hull. Hopefully something will happen in that department in a year or two. But the ultimate package is an Outerlimits SV 29 with a single 565 running 101 mph!

    cheers Toffen

I have used the verado and etec both commercially and prefer etec. I found the Mercury gutless compared to the torque of the 200 ho. And these were 275 verados.as they say no replacement for displacement.
