Man the more I'm learning about HPDI outboards the more confused I get. Some people swear by one brand and say avoid all the others, and you can find those who say the same about each one of all the others.

What we need is too hard to know: Statistics on how many of each brand and specific model and year broke down, what broke, why it broke (user fault or bad design), how many hours, and to be fair you would need to know how many total were produced and how many of those are running trouble free and how many hours are on those, and at what throttle, RPM, etc.

Very difficult to quantify unless you have rampant failures on one model that makes it stick out.

I have two 1980's carburated Mercs.. and all this computerized HPDI crap is making me think of just staying with them despite the wear and poor gas mileage, and oil consumption. I've also heard some mechanics and owners saying to stay away from the 'Rudes due to failures, is that true as well? I've also seen a computer for one, for sale on Ebay, for 2800.00??? Really?

This was BRP's display of 14' MY E-TEC's in Orlando in September. We got a chance to drive a twin 300's with the Optimus 360 system; it was pretty interesting to say the least.

They already make 160 HP out of a twin etec rotax for snowmobiles, and the aerocharger has been around for a few years for it.
800 cc, 160 HP, 2 cyl. Too bad that didn't transpose easily for HiPo boats eh?
Sign me up for a 1600 cc 320 4 cyl with a twin turbo setup!
That 800 etec rotax is a powerhouse before the aerocharger. Haven't had the pleasure of riding a boosted one yet.

    300 5500 1.85 6250 limiter... bored.....

I have a 05 225 w/389hrs on my boat now. 1.62 sporty, a 34 and sloppy conditions it ran 105 at 5800 and I felt like I was Sid Hanson from deadliest catch. Its a dam shame they dont make a good case and or gear cause even a Gen1 will turn em.

How many foot is your Laser and what are your speeds with that 225 HO? What year is the motor, how many hours, and any issues or problems to report? I'm still considering which motor I should get...

Mine is 19' (380 Ray). The Motor is an 06' i bought used a couple years back with ~700hours on it. It had a cracked #6 piston, no other issues... Right now i'm running ~90mph hitting the rev limiter with a 15X32p Bullet Cut Performer.

Ace Evinrude + Streamline = Evinrude E-TEC HEAVEN & listen to that sound.

They dominate in Australian Ski Racing in Modified Open Cockpit Class.
