Bad Shift Interrupt Switch, Optimax 150 Replace Question

I understand this switch controls the rpm while in nuetral to reduce torque load on the gearcase. How important or what are the dangers of waiting to replacing a bad switch? I will need to remove the lower cowl and prefer to wait until winter to complete other repairs to the Poppit and oil lines at the same time. Does this switch affect any other function of the motor?

the switch kills spark to one bank of cyls. when moving shifter from neutral into forward or reverse. the motor slows when the cyls are cut off so it does not bang gears in lower unit.

So my switch stays closed, (has continuety) all the time. I understand it is supposed to be closed in neutral and then open in gear. So am I risking any potential damage here by using the motor with a bad switch? It goes into gear easliy and seems to be reving at a normal low level at the point of engage. What is your or anyone elses opinion?

If that switch is bad and it's showing the computer that the engine is still in nuetral. Won't let the engine rpm much higher then 2000 rpm. Safety feature so the engine doesn't over rev with no load. At least that's how it works on 3.0L Optimax.

I found out the switch was bad when I could not get the oil pump to prime using the shift switch procedure. The switch definitely stays closed when shifted out of neutral into gear. But it shifts into gear easily and runs well at wide open throttle. It all makes no sense!

As easy as it is to change I would go ahead and fix it. It will take about 15 minutes to do
