    Haha well maybe I have my starboard and port mixed up then. Lol. Sitting in the boat, left is port and right is starboard, correct?

    Or maybe I have the cyl numbers mixed up? Book shows me that #1 cyl is left(port) top??

    The reason it controls top and bottom is the box is the same as a v4 thus fewer parts to stock, originally they had different numbers for top and bottom later all had the longer wires for bottom. Odd of a timer being bad on 4 cylinders is very low generally they will lose only 1. You need a peak reading voltmeter to properly check the system. 1 is the highest cylinder top starboard

    Now, can he swap packs side to side to see if the problem follows the packs? Assuming the primary coil wires are long enough?

    OK, and you guys know very well that goes against all OMC engine design practices. No other OMC I ever heard of has top and bottom controlling powerpacks. All are side to side. Great to know tho. Thanks Racer.

    Along with the exhaust separated top 4 and bottom 4. The v8s definitely didn't fit with the 4s and 6s.
    Then again, they basically stacked two v4s on top of each other. So maybe the 6 doesn't fit???
