Straiten out the exhaust going through the adapter. Easiest to use a 2.7 adapter because there is no water dump in the back and straiten out the back wall.

I have a 3.4 adapter on a 15" taylor. Its for sale because I have a V8 mid Im cutting to ~10ish" with a trick chromoly clamp/trim section being built by the mad scientist on the east coast. Its gonna shave more then a few lbs

Im not using an adapter or factory adapter anyway, the v8 mid matches up on 6 of the original powerhead holes so no need for an adapter ,just a 3/4 plate cut to match the exhaust and water passages. Are u cutting a regular v8 mid like i had on my previous motor or an f1 can. I had cut the back wall out of an adapter and welded a new plate in way back on the first motor pictures were on here somewhere..

Right like I said you did that trick to your V8 mid.

My v8 mid adapter is a single 1" aluminum adapter with water passages and exhaust cut in it for 3.4 gasket. I wanted a stock E-tec powerhead to bolt on and run as if its on a factory mid so I drilled and tapped the adapter for the barbs for the rear water supply hoses. A stock adapter would be 3" taller so it makes the mid seem shorter but I did have to relocate the cowl pins. This is when it was 15" on my T1 a couple yrs back.

Is that a regular fishing v8 mid with the offshore exhaust added?

That looks like the first one i did, wish there was a date on that pic it was a while ago. I made another one with the divider because nosub said i ruined that one taking out the divider ,but i didnt notice any difference so i used that one in the photo on my 8 mid. That is a 20 in v8 mid, they came factory with the snout.

Is there a divider in that adapter plate Dave? I can't remember if it had it. If it doesn't, it should.

That picture was posted in 02'-03' , the last one I did I didn't open it up quite so much so that you can leave the stud in the mid an put a nut on it after the adapter but it's very tight like you have to start the nut before you sit the adapter down. I also put a little curve in the back wall to direct the exhaust forward gradually into the mid.

Joe not sure what adapter your talking about, do you mean the 1 in aluminum plate that someone started making that came with the mid ? if so no just has one big square hole , I didn't use it, making a new one I didn't like way the outer aft bolts went in. What mid are you running now? the short f1.

That is why I never used that plate, I used a 2-piece. Still haven't figured out what I'm gonna do. Might head down to Freddie's in a couple weeks and start experimenting....
