No, the ring gear dropped down and tore up the stator instead of going up and launching through the cowl maybe toward my head. I did have a helmet on but wouldnt want to test it against a 6000rpm toothed saw blade.

I thought I read way back that you bored the carbs ? I would like to think that you have a better chance of winning the Lottery than having another come apart.

No its one piece. It had been lightened. It broke where it was lightened. Found a little rust in a couple of the breaks indicating it may have started to crack awhile back.
The new one wont be lightened. Not worth the effort and really no gain from all I understand. I had orginally planned to turn this motor 8k rpm or more but its never going to breath up there so Im probably better off with a stock reliable flywheel.

What does the stock one weigh? YOu don't think it spun up faster or
    gained a couple on top?

I have nothing to compare but, others who have used data logging equipment have never seen an increase in acceleration from a lightened flywheel. The advantage is less strain on the crankshaft at very high RPM's caused by the gyroscopic effect of the rotating mass.

Called and he said they sold the nice one. Gave me a partial refund. Pulled the shield off the magnets and of course every one was loose. Time to sandblast, epoxy the magnets, then paint. So much for pristine fresh water parts....
