2.4 MOD VP motors came with velocity stacks. I have same motor. I removed the stacks with no ill effects.
Stacks ain't going to get ya 1000rpm they are not the issue.

The engine height is as high as it can go while keeping adequate water pressure with the 2 Hole CLE. I find the factory water pickup holes quite high as they are just above the bullet compared to my setup with the bob's cone where they are below. But obviously people run fast with the stock CLE so this isn't the issue. I would guess he is about even with the pad. We'll see what happens today with the 24.

I had the STV out today with the 24 Chopper on it and it pulled like a freight train from idle to about 6500 RPM and then struggled to get up to 7000 RPM and just barely made it to 7200 RPM once. I talked to my buddy Fullthrottleguy about it and he suggested checking the spark plugs quickly after running it hard, so I'll give that a try in the next few days or so. Where starting to wonder if it's a bad plug or a head gasket leak maybe? Anyone with a Bridgeport experience these symptoms?

What about the Jets? It occurred to me that this Mod-VP motor runs lower compression then it was initially jetted for because its heads have been swapped to regular Bridgeport ones; it could be running a bit fat. What jets would a regular '86 Bridgeport have?

My factory original MOD VP motor had 96 & 94 main jets. I replaced the 2 piece 2.0L heads with standard one piece heads so lowering compression from 145# to 120#. The motor was dialed in with 88 & 86 jets.

Thanks! That was exactly what I was looking for. I can't help but notice your name "fastlaser"; do you have a Bridgeport on a laser LTV? If so how does it run?

Yes, a 1986 MOD VP motor on a 1987 LTV. Came with a stock 28" big ear chopper. I added a jack plate with only 2.5" set back. Cables are too short to allow anything further. Have not bothered to replace them yet. Boat ran okay but I found it trim sensitive because of the bow lift provided by the prop. It ran mid eighties with this setup. Recently picked up a 28" small ear chopper because I tried a 26" small ear and found the boat had much better attitude. Raised motor so bullet level with pad. Have not checked speed lately, but suspect similar results as motor turns 6700 rpm with this set up. All in all, a nice handling boat.

It's possible that the 2.4 MOD-VP won't turn harder than high 6's without the high-compression heads and high octane fuel.

I'm surprised these motors can't pull +7500 RPM on these boats too. Mcmopar has .092 and .056 jets so perhaps it is jetted too rich for these heads which could explain a bit of the lack of RPM.
