Help identifying a 90 CU inch Stacker Motor
Picked up an old MErc with stacks this past weekend. In the middle of the tear down process and finding a few interesting things i am hoping someone can help me with.
Looks like a 1966 or 67 110HP motor from the serialnumber of 1971067 which is on the ID plate. No telling if this power head has been changed over before and can find no evidence of a simmilar serial number stamped anywhere inthe block. Defintley a pre 99 cu in motor based on the smaller size of the exhaust cavity and the old style deflector pistons. Block has the word " TIGER" cast into it which if i remember right was a 110. Hoping someoen can confirm this.
A few other interesting thigns. The distributor module has "Calibration date 1967" scribed into it with one of those vibrating tools for scribing onto metal. Any idea why someone would do that???
Also no shift shaft but a wood plug and bracket to hold it in place. Havent got th elower off yet ( stuck bolt) but with no gearshift, thats is a bit interesting.
Last is the stacks, Water cooled manifold obviously cast by someone. No idea if these are aftermarket or Merc design. Iknow the snake eggs inthe water passgeways were not Factory equipment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elbows were spot welded and then brazed.. Factory stuff??
Probably going to screw up th euploading of th epics so please bear with me .
Appreciate any and all comments. Rotating assy is in great shape. A fresh water motor that will live again some day soon to breath noise and wake the neighborhood!!!
Thanks
Tom

Never seen anything like it. Can you give close ups of the casting numbers?

Got the casting numbers to enlarge ... factory prototype style numbers ... my guess is factory

110's are not 89/90 ci motors, they are 92/93 ci motors. The final digits being 110 in Merc prototype casting style indicate the part was being developed for a 110 hp motor, regardless of what it was tested on.

Back to the ignition ... early '67's had point triggered electronic ignition ... late in '67 the full electronic triggered CDI came out.
Could be the ignition is pre-production as well. Is it point triggered or electronic?

I need to look at my 1100's . I dont think mine have the serial number stamped twice like that. Once one the block and once on the front manifold.

The last 1000 that was found with stacks had a standard lower unit as well. Not sure if there was as use for them with standard lowers or that was all some people could find to put back on them at some point.
