25' Motion Power Cat 28P Mazzco RE vs 28P Cleaver

    Ok so heres the question

I have a 25' Motion Cat with two 2.5 260's with Latham Hydraulic steering

What would you think is a better performing prop Mazzco Round Ear 28's or Mazzco Cleaver 28's

    Thank you

I'm interested as well, I just picked up a 24 Liberator, pretty similar hull with 2.5 245's. I'm running 30 cleavers and thinking about upping the wheel. 32's? 34's? But am wondering if the Cleaver is the way to go or not?

cleavers are smoother than choppers on wheel torque
cleavers are better for lower unit as far as wear to internals from what i have heard .
cleavers lift the back of the boat less trim
    cleavers chop fish better lol.
find some one to let you try 32's on your lib before you buy ,could not turn 32's on 23 daytona with 245's past 6500 30's are ok 28's punch and good speed.

Interested as well. I am local to you in Tarpon Springs Have a 25 Motion as well. Have a set of 32 Cleavers on my 2.5 280s
and can get on the limiter pretty quick. When I bought the boat they were spinning in, quite a hand full. turned them out last weekend feels much better.
Do alot of cruising and thinking of tring a set of 32 bravos. Any thoughts?

Joe (cpthawk) it was great to meet you and your wife this past weekend. You definitely have one sharp looking boat. I am quite jealous, your 280's are going to give my 245's an inferiority complex when you say things like we hit 111 on the limiters on our first attempt. That's is seriously fast. Hope we see more of you guys now that you've caught the speed bug.

Bravos are 15-1/4 and are much harder to turn then cleavers but they will cruise 10x better. Drill big vent holes to help holeshot. I would see if prop gods would let you try a set of 30 bravos. Do you have OS boxes or 7700 limiters?

I have 7700 limiters but I have 14.5x32 Mazzco cleavers right now and for whatever reason neither motor will go past 5500.. Now i have only had the boat out twice with me and the wife so I didnt go nuts.. it hits 5300 hard and than a slow creep up... While doing this I have the 260s burried up against the 2nd trim pin hole from the transom..

Should I trim the motors out for the last 2000 RPM or should I go down to 30P? I only ask and am concerned because I see that guys with 245 motors same size boat basically hit limiter hard and quick..

I have 20'' smooth offshore mids, 1.87 CLE 2 hole lowers..

The back seat is heavy as **** and so is the hatch on the boat because they are made out of plywood and the hatch is soaked and will be getting replaced but I cant see an extra 500lbs bogging the rpm down like that???

I also have manual jack plates..

The original guy I bought boat off of had mazzco 28P cleavers but I didnt buy them with the boat as I thought they were too small of pitch...

Does these motors go flat at the 5300-7700 range and need trimmed out?

    Thanks guys

I have a 24' Skater and with 14.5x32 cleavers we hit the limiter at 6250 around 90mph. Put 14.5x34's and could only get to about 5700rpms at 86mph. I don't know if the 32's were labbed but I think they were. The 34's are stock. I would think with 260's you should be pushing those 32's to at least 6800rpms.

I would think something is going on...? What is your water pressure like? I would raise the motors if you have no WP issues. I have 245's and they are stock. I turn my 32's at least 7000. After 7000 one spins up more than the other, for reasons I have yet to figure out but a few times I've seen 7600 on both. Your 260's should be much stronger than my setup. I'm running 32 x 14.5 Mazco's not labbed. I leave the motors buried through the hop, once it smooths out trim it to win it.
