You are exactly right. The 23' Action was derived from the 25' Action and was the brainchild of Barney senior. We blocked off the mold of the 25' by 23" at the transom. Then, we added an additional 4 degrees of transom angle, added reduced sized lifting strakes behind the original ones closest to the keel and added a reverse chine. The intent was to make the boat faster than the 25' Action for single applications, while incorporating the bottom changes to improve the ride, out of the hole performance and on plane, slow speed cornering and maneuverability. The changes did what we had hoped and even exceeded our expectations. Picked up a significant amount of top end speed in single applications and the ride is incredible, despite the two feet shorter length.

Love mine. It's a boat that can do it all, from river runs to Bahamas trip! As Mr. Action says, the boats run in the 80's with a Monty V-8. Would be interesting to see what a Merc 400 R would do.

What does the bottom look like on these? Is there a large pad, cut out, what? Where do they get the speed numbers from?

Great info !! I would also like to know from you gurus that have been playing with the setups on the 25s how much set back do these boats like with twin merc outboards? Also 20" or 25" shafts? Where does the prop hub like to be in relation to the running surface? I know the Action Marine guys know how to dial them in for the best top end !!

The bottom is a traditional 24 degree vee, no pad, no step. Not sure what speed numbers you are referring to, but here is a link to a Boattest.com test of my 23 Action. With 2 people, test gear, etc. it ran 63.4 MPH and best cruise was at 3500 at 3.79 MPG.

We typically set the 25's up with twin 20" engines with about a 15" setback. Most times a B-Bracket or an Armstrong bracket was used, something that provides flotation works well but is not required. Some were set up with twin 25" engines, but to get the best handling and speed, we found the 20" setup worked best. Single engines at about 22' - 29" of setback. Best propshaft height varies depending on what you want to do with the boat, but somewhere around level with the bottom seemed to work well for a lot of applications.

That is exactly the information I have been looking for. Thank you very much. I have a stainless marine 27" setback with twin 25" mids. They are set too far back to me by the way it handles and balances. I have been looking into finding 20" mids for my mercs but that is proving difficult and expensive, so may go the jack plate route. I am right around 70 now, going to have Simon do some computer tweaking to see if I can hit 80 with the correct setup. Thanks again for your information. I absolutely love my 25

The "Vindicator" boat was a 25' Action with twin 20" Evinrude 225 's Vindicators, rigged with a Porta Bracket. It appeared in the 1995 Evinrude catalog. Ran good with the V-6's, but later in life was rigged with twin Monty V-8's and ran right around 100 MPH.

No, Pazos senior had his own 25' Action, but he did purchase those motors and ran them on his boat. It also ran right around 100 MPH.
