My friend owns that Hydrostream with the 300XS in the video. Not one just like it but that actual boat. It is up in northern, MN and I can get contact info for you if you need it. I just sold a 2002 Vegas XT with a 2007 ETEC 200H.O. on the back. I had sent the lower unit to Titus and he did a nice job on it. With the different gearing on my ETEC I was running a 30p Lightning ET for best results. I liked the boat but it was too A$$ heavy. Fuel tank, big block motor, battery, oil tank, jackplate, jackplate pump it was too much for that light little boat. The motor itself was a sweet motor. Never missed a beat, quiet, and strong.

I'm moving back to the Merc 2.5 block and back to a tunnel as I didn't like the way that setup handled any kind of chop on our lake. A light tunnel with the 2.5 will probably a little better balanced.

Do you know what props and setback your friend with the 300XS in the video is running. Also any idea about speeds he has seen with that setup. I know that the newer XT bottoms are a little different than my older one but I have no idea if they perform any different.

    Thank You

I thought it felt very stable with my short 16" case ......18" I could really drive her home....all joking aside might end up with a 280 sportmaster or a optimax with a sporty....she still handles great

What is the difference between to old XT bottoms and the Newer ones? Are there performance numbers with the 3 liter mercs on the XT bottom?

The new XT bottoms have a wider pad. I don't remember if they lack the deep channels on each side of the pad like the original XT had. They run very nice with a 3.0L.

If you still have the 200 Promax, I'd suggest a 28 big-ear chopper or Hoss round-ear.

For 250+ HP, they run well with a Lightning ET or other props with less bow-lift-- With enough motor to power through the midrange and put some wind under the hull, you can run just about anything for light-load top end, even a Cleaver.

The chopper is the most versatile, especially if you carry load or passengers.

BBLADES Blaster.... Hands down more versatile then the Chopper.... still holds the r's well, easy to control on top end and and still gets the boat going well with 4 people in the boat.

I'm running a 29p hoss trenton. 12" setback even with the pad. On a 2.5 260. 7500 rpm. With sportmaster . Need to raise it up a little more. You don't want too much positive trim.

One of my favorite all around props on my 87' with 225 Promax is a 25 trophy 4 blade, good out of the hole, low torque steer, good with passengers and 80+mph topend. It was another Vegas owners post on here that made me try it, never imagined it to be so good but it is everything he said.

BTW I have 24 and 26 choppers and hate them both compared to the Trophy and 27 SRX.

I have a 21 foot vegas with a 200 merc--both are 89 year models, im running a 26 mazco re at 6400 rpm-s don't know how fast im going but you cant hang on 2 it 4 more than about 10 seconds unless u want 2 get killed, I would say if you had a 300 on one you could not drive it not to mention the strain you would put on the transom

With all due respect... If you can't handle a Vegas with 200 HP for 10 seconds, then you need some setup changes, need to learn to drive it, or maybe both.

200 HP for the Vegas is under-powered, in my opinion.

Agree with Pyro, Vegas is no prob to drive with a 200 but the setup must be correct, solid mounts, tight steering, torque tamer all very critical.

Pyro: I own a winshieldless Vegas that I picked up in MI in 2012, I think you might have posted on the for sale ad here. The boat was ok with 200hp but way better all around with the Promax I have on it now.
