ID:	273856 Hello everyone I introduce myself my name gero and I'm Italian, I'm very sorry for the wrong English! So I present to you my boat a Piranha Espada of 1988 of 4, 80m with a johnson 175hp v6 60 degrees with the 150 hp carburettor and propeller pitch 19 original aluminum omc!
the boat has an incredible set but the maximum speed does not satisfy me at all!
but since I am in this forum I feel with you, this is a small problem!!
the boat gets to 46 mph at 5600 rpm with 19 omc aluminum propeller (in the photo)
and a steel propeller pitch 18 arrives at 50 mph at 5800 rpm!

is not it a bit too slow??

I will! and I want to make sure to get her to at least 75 mph

do you think making the right changes can I get the speed you want from me with this engine????

if yes, what should I change??

if not I have a mercury 2.5 efi

PLEASE HELP ME I AM IN YOUR HANDS

    Hey Dude!
Start with the cheapest most effective modifications!
    1) water pressure gage, record your numbers to see what is normal
    2) Jack plate 6" set back, any thing 4" or more will help
3 Raker prop, the can be had fairly cheap and are good wheels, especially the Raker 1
    4) raise motor on jack plate to pick up speed.
    5) You will probably loose water pressure
    6) Plug top water inlets on your lower unit, this will allow you to raise the motor higer and gain more speed.

Use a GPS to record your speed accuratly

    7) report your results here That will keep you busy for awhile.

    Hello thanks for the reply!
I thought I'd buy these things:

jack-plate of 60 cm + manual power lift of 12 cm

    - Bow step surface 23 chopper

-and repowering the engine to 175 hp

What do you think of the changes I want to do???????????

I'm sorry but I do not understand the 'English and I did not understand what you mean by:
    1) water pressure gage, record your numbers to see what is normal

Plug top water inlets on your lower unit, this will allow you to raise the motor and higer gain more speed.

When you start to raise the motor higher (up) for less lowerunit drag sometimes the motor can suck in air instead of water. The water pressure will drop and the motor can over heat. You can connect a water pressure gage from the fitting on the rear of the motor (where the "Pisser") (tell Tale water stream) comes out and run a hose to your dash (helm) and install the pressure gage there.

If you look at your lowerunit there are 4 water intakes on both sides. You can plug the top two on both sides to allow your motor to run higher without losing water pressure.
I have found that a Chopper will give good top end numbers but the Hole shot will Suck (Be bad) on an OMC. The Low velocity high volume exaust gas will make the motor over rev and the boat will go no where fast. A thru the hub exaust prop like a Raker ususally will preform better. But I tried them both so you can do it as well. Thats what makes it interesting.Click image for larger version.

Hi guys i have restarted the project of my piranha espada
I have chance in the boat :

-hydraulic power lift bob's 6inch setback

-bob's solid nose cone in lower unit

    -Michigan wheel prop ballistic p21

    -solid motor mount

    - carbs of 175 Hp and power head 175hp

the boat go araund 57 -58 mph but over 50 mph lose stability

What do you recommend to get the boat to 70 mph without losing stability?

this is a video where the boat lose stability and my friend fail to take the telephon in your hand

Get a foot throttle so you can keep both hands on the wheel. Check the steering for slop. That was fun to watch!

    Hello,

First of all very nice setup! That video was indeed fun to watch! I have a Piranha Espada myself with a Evinrude 130 hp, running a 4 blade Ballistic 13 3/4 x 23 at 6000 RPM at 57 mph. (not the fastest prop I think, want to try a Raker I 24p in the future):

The Piranha Espada's were built in Belgium for ski-racing. It is a deep V hull without a pad and a hook in the last 80 cm of the boat. Therefore I doubt if you will be able to reach your goal of 75 mph. I run my prop shaft about 2 - 2,5 inches below the hull (hydraulic lift) without a low water pickup, but I maintain more than adequate water pressure (25-30 psi)

These hulls are notorious for chine walking and you will need some seat time to gain experience with driving it. Like stated above, definately get a foot throttle and steering switches for your trim and hydraulic lift.

You can see a video of my boat here:
    http://vimeo.com/107196437

As you can see in the video, there is quite some porpoising going on. In the last minute or so of the video I have the hydraulic lift and porpoising was mostly under control. I think the Piranha Espada will never run like some of the padded hulls you see here on S&F, which are probably perfectly straight unlike the Piranha.

WOOOOWWW RoyE your boat are very very nice! thanks for your post!!!
I will listen to your advice and first thing I put in the shopping cart a foot throttle!
but i don't understand how to mount the trim and jake command in the wheel???
in this sun i tried to fix the power lift's command in the wheel with a spring cable but this hasn't been a good idea because the wheel rotation is not homogeneous and the spring cable gathered around the steering and nearly went crashing into the rocks

how i can put the power lift's and trim's command in the wheel?????

    Thank you!

Almost crashed into the rocks that is dangerous.

What steering pump are you using? I have a Seastar steering pump and I have mounted the Teleflex dual trim switch. It can be mounted on various steering pumps (also Mavimare, which is Italian, right?), using the three screws on the front of the housing (which holds the shaft seal).

The lower one is the dual trim switch, do a search on eBay (Teleflex dual trim switch) or order at your local dealer.

I had already thought of this dual trim switch, but I haven't been convinced because I want to have the hands control with inch!!!

It will work with that pump from the looks of it.

You can bend the switches in order to position them JUST behind your steering wheel. You only have to stretch your fingers to reach it. I am very happy with the dual trim switch.
