When we flipped mine, we just set it on the ground and rolled it over with a couple guys to ''catch'' it when it was over its balance point. Six of us lifted it off the trailer and set it back on easily. When i fixed the bottom i used fiberglass and resin on the big problem areas and dyna glass filler for the small chips. The dyna glass is a fiberglass reinforced body filler thats water proof.

Jason, checked out the build thread tonight.... looking good Better idea of the project here than on my cellphone pic's. Looks like you got a reprive of a few weeks, Omaha race is cancelled due to weed issues. They are looking into Jewel's little wall for the rescheduled event August 10th.

I had some issue with the gel on the bottom setting up and said eff that boat for a bit. Sometimes you just have to walk away for a while. I'll get some updated pics and post them up.
Now that the omaha drags got cancelled (hopefully moved), I have a couple more weeks to get things sorted out before the cassville event. Atre you going to come up for some fun at cassville?1975 Hydrostream Ventura II

I've been hard at it getting the top of the hull ready for gel coat. Filling the well in has my arms wore out. A lot of blocking to make sure it was flat. I used short strand filler for the finishing coats. Everything is prepped to 80 grit except for right next to the rubrail. Will tape the rail off then scuff the rest. If all goes well, I will spray it tomorrow. Here are some pics...

Its all white! Thanks to quarterhorse for the mixing my gel and keeping an eye out while I was painting. A second hand makes the biggest difference in the world. Its late and the pics show it.

Looking great! You're officially further along than me now. I'm still working on the inside.

Thanks guys! I checked it out this morning and found a few pinholes in the gel. I must have missed them when i was prepping it. No biggie, I thing I can mix up a small amount of gel and dab it in with a tooth pick. I sanded a small area where I thought there might be some solvent pops or small bubbles that didn't make it to the surface and it turns out they were just splatter. Sweet! The sanding and buffing will begin tomorrow.

Is your rubrail in decent shape? Mine is pretty dinged up and I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it.

Mine is pretty beat up too. I've heard of a rubber cover for the hydrostream style rubrail. I would like to get some of that for this hull. I think the black rubber would look better than the beat up raw aluminum.

One of the few times being a body guy it comes in handy! Good work guys, a helper is a must when spraying gel.....takes almost as long to mix it as it does to lay it down, and Acetone is your best friend.

I did a lot of sanding on the hull today. I started with 500 grit and wasn't getting very far so i switched to 320. Got the entire top sanded to 320 and moved back to 500 for the well. I decided to buff a small spot on the well to see what it looked like. Shines up ok, but it still needs sanded some more to remove all the low spots. I'm afraid of sanding through all over cause i did get through on an edge. I've done my fair share of sanding and buffing, just not on anything with this rough of a surface. I usually start with 1000 grit for buffing and prep to 320. Anyway, here is a quick pic of the shiny spot.

Looks good , I just sprayed 4 coats of gel on the bottom my 21 foot Glastron Carlson jet last week . Its all orange peel lol . I used 180 grit on the orbital very lightly to get it smoothed out . If you find too many pin holes you might want to try a Preval sprayer to fill the holes . just my .02 . Good luck with your project
