I think the whine is the gear train connecting the engine to the transmission. The description I got from the Davis's reminded me of the old Crower camshaft gear drives for race engines.

The 7 rep at the show told me they have a base cost of 69k and about 80k rigged. I can buy four 300 verados for same price as one seven motor. 4 verados or 1 seven????? Until they get the price down to around 40-50 k a piece, I don't see how these make any sense. I do think it is a very cool design and I hope this starts a new trend in outboards. I was told by the rep that the fountain ran 81mph and got 1.4mpg at 50 mph. Four 300 verados will push the boat to 82 and run about 1.0 at 50. Also, mercury tested the same hull with triple 350 verados that ran 80 and got 1.2 at 50. I can buy a lot of fuel for the extra 100k it would cost to put sevens on there.

My bet is it will be a long time before they approach the same $ per HP as an equivalent Merc, if they ever do. Not sure they even want to, even in this economy, 1/2 million dollar+ supercars are selling just fine when there are much cheaper ways to get into something that performs the same or better... At some point you just buy something because it's exclusive, limited, and special, no matter if it makes sense or not.

I don't even want to think about the development costs and liability issues that come up when building something like this. Wow. Tons of cash on the line with this venture. I really hope they make it, they sure have the odds stacked against them.

Invincible to orders for 3 of their new 42' center consoles in Saturday alone at the boat show. The only people who seem to be buying are exactly the target for a product like this.

Dumb question here? What about oil? Is there something specific they recommend? Same oil you'd put in a Cadillac?

I think there will be another thread dedicated to the best oil for 7 marine engines.

I can't believe they're not using a wing plate style external hydraulic steering system on those monsters. That's an awful lot of torque reaction to apply to one little bolt on the tiller arm of each motor if you ask me.
