What size props are you running on your 4? That's a long haul... I'll tow it down if you want to pay for gas in the truck...

The prop I have now is a 10 1/4 x 17 1/2 LH 3 blade from Dewald. It won't be very competitive but it will be fine to get started. When I get used to the boat and know what I need, I have access to more props.

no start with that , i would run that 17 right past 10,000rpms, im running 18 and 19. stick with the 4blade stuff also , i was trying 3 blade and spun the boat out twice in the turns, 5 blade keep the nose down , good for running bay city
thats a good set up to start with, just make sure that speedmaster is where its supposed to be, it looks like the pick up is gonne be to high, could be just the angle im looking at? i just cant belive how deep that tunnel is....dam make sure u got your ducks in a row , hate to see u toast that motor .SEEBOLD CHAMPBOAT MERCURY S3000

We are also probably running very different engines. What are you running for power? I have 2.5 a carb engine, just under 250hp at 7100rpm. Not spinning to the moon with this one. Should be able to break into triple digits though.
An experienced racer got me this prop straight from Dewald, so I want to give it a shot before spending money on more props right away. I'm sure I will be buying more props, but don't want to spend tons of money until I know what I need.
Had a minor set back today. Found a couple cracks in the gas tank we had to weld. Will put everything back together tomorrow and start it up on the hose.
I will also put a string line between the bottom of the sponsons and get an accurate measurement of how high the gear case is. A friend of mine who used to race is coming to look over the boat and make sure everything is good and ready to go.

Thanks Jim! This summer I joined Mendana Racing out of Miami as a crew member helping out both Carlos and Jose Jr with their F1 boats. I enjoy working on the boats and have learned a lot. Everyone I talk to at the races is very supportive and willing to help out someone new to the sport. It will be nice to finally start running and working on my own boat as well. I'm taking it slow, making sure not to rush anything, and have some of the best people around helping me along the way (this forum included). I appreciate all of the help and input I can get.

I will slide the boat back on the trailer to get better measurements/photos but this will give you an idea of the tunnel depth.
The point at the front of the gear case looks to be just over 1" above the bottom of the sponsons. That should put put the water pickups close to even or slightly above the bottom of the sponsons.

I pulled it out to run on the hose today. It started right up. Finally!!
Next week I will hook up the steering, then have to switch to the left hand flywheel and starter, and set the timing again. After that I can put the gear case on and take it to the water for its first test drive.
