gmjim, I know it's been a while but I finally got around to hooking up a trim indicator if you are still interested. The Pin through the trim ram and mid is threaded in one end, the indicator cable hooks up directly to that. I did have to drill a hole through the transom for it to line up correctly. To clamp the cable sleeve I turned down a couple nuts round in the lathe and cut them in half. The ID of the threads are just a bit smaller than the OD of the sleeve , with a hose clamp around the 2 halves the threads clamp and hold firmly onto the sleeve to ensure it won't move (same done both inside and outside transom). The larger hole beside it is where the previous owner had the cable routed through to hookup to a newer style champ mid, and I still need to plug that. The cable goes right into the cockpit and across the dash for a simple trim gauge. Here are a few pictures showing how it is set up.




The first race, Maple City Grand Prix, is on the last weekend of May in Laporte Indiana. There's still quite a bit of work to be done, but I hope to be on the water next week for some pre-race testing and practice. I'm super excited, and a bit nervous, to finally run my first race with the boat. Almost there.

Does that boat have on board air?

Yes. I'm using a Tiger air mask. I picked up my radios, PTT harness etc, and the rest of the air system this afternoon and just finished wiring and routing hoses. Radios are good to go and I just need to get the air tanks filled and put one in the boat. Just a few little things left and it will be ready for testing next week.

Cool project, looking good, I totally agree with parker whats up with the bolts in the steering pulleys/ links. The brackets you made look awesome but I hope the home depot hardware was just for fitting the stuff together. Dude I just spent $200 on rod ends alone so knew I had aircraft quality parts on my steering links, get some arp or sps stainless or Inconel bolts in there.

Yes, those bolts in the pictures were just what I had at that time to check fit. They have been replaced (using grade 8 bolts and AN aircraft grade bolts/hardware).

Laporte is going to be a cool race. In addition to the regular testing periods and heat races, there is a rookies only on course test session and a couple formula one rookie shootout heats. It's looking like there will be 7 rookies running in F1 including myself. It will be a great introduction to a racing environment before jumping in to a heat with 20+ boats.
