There was no Hustler designation in 1978. The 70 was only a Hustler in 1974, and then it was only the 15" version for SE/EP racing.

The 70 in 1978 was simply a standard engine, only available in 20" version, with or without power trim/tilt. '78 was the first year for integral trim/tilt.

Hard to see by the photo, but that looks like it's in pretty nice condition.

Nothing at all makes it special except for the paint and decals. It's just a 70.

A stock 1974 Evinrude 70 short shaft (15 inch) used the larger gear case.

There was a short shaft 70 with the smaller Nitro gear case available for SE class racing in 1974.
That engine came with racing powertrim, a high perf. cylinder head.

Lots of race driver used this engine 1974 but I dont think OMC sold this model in USA.
Came as a stock model 1975 in the USA as a 75 hp. Short shaft. The long shaft 70/75 always used the larger gear case.
    Here is more about this..

1974 was a very good year for my SE Class Racing

This is a 1975 model year paint job..long shaft and the larger gear case.. if I remember right this paint job was for the 75hp only..
