The Carniti factory was just down the road a piece in OGIONO and Angelo Vassena was employed there, and was a good friend of Renato.

The Italians do tend to stick together so it could have happened.

Which hull did Vassena use in Paris with the 2 litre Carniti ?????

Back to Ellie Langdon and then we can return this thread to its original meandering topic. I spoke with Joe Imprescia, a friend for decades, and a Long Island based multi time Offshore Champion who also did some OPC racing back in the early 80's. Joe started as an OMC mechanic at Alhambra Marine in Massapequa. He knew Ellie well and had numerous machining projects run through his shop. According to Joe, Ellie did a large and consistent amount of machining work on blocks, rods and some pistons for OMC racing in the 60's and 70's. He did not assemble most of the stuff at his shop but simply shipped the items back to Waukegan after modifications. His shop was filled with photos of himself with Jack Leek and Charlie Strang and other OMC notables. Apparently his port work was second to none and he also developed a successful technique for allowing OMC wrist pins to "float" in the piston. There were other "one off" projects he worked on but was always closed mouthed about exactly what he was doing. However given the OMC crates and shipping activity, in and out that I got a glimpse of and Joey confirmed, this was not a flash in the pan type relationship. Joey did say that he believes Ellie created (or machined after casting elsewhere)prototype multi carb intake manifolds as well.

Sadly Ellie has passed on.... again, perhaps Tom Ireland Or Charlie can fill in some blanks. I am certainly no expert as, frankly, I hated the damn things.... although I did race a pair of 115's in 1968 on an Eltro..and later Charlie sent us a 235 on consignment to use on one of our 21' Shadow Demo hulls.

Now I will shut up and try and locate some more pictures of our Molinari's.

I think these pictures were originally put up by Seeroy.

Here is another 'Gulf Wind Marine': Roy Ridgell driving. I always thought this was taken at the 1966 Gold Coast Marathon, the last year on the ICW. 1100 Stacker, with the center stack broken off---

I didn't know Mercury built 1100s with stacks. It looks like that motor has the old style cowlings with the recoil starter in the top cowl. If so was the last of the recoil starter equiped inline 6s? Yes that second picture is looking west from the dock at the Pelican Harboe Yacht Club.

They didn't. They were, dare I say..."aftermarket", in those days. Quincy's or handbuilt, etc.

It would appear that this was a "factory" ride. Roy Ridgell driving what looks like an early Molinari tunnell hull with "Gulf Wind Marine" on it.That says factory to me. It seems to me that several factory boats in the Gold Coast back then used either "Gulf Wind Marine" or names that made refrence to "Midnight Pass" where the salt water test facility was located.

I believe the Lake X guys have refered to this boat as "Mr Kiekhaefer's personal Molinari"
