The location also determines the pressure difference and direction of flow during operation. If the drain hole is to the inlet plenum, water flows to the cylinder area. When the drain is to the discharge plenum, water flows out of the cylinder area when running.

Go Time, did you get the OEM Promax 15" Tuner that you show on the right of your photo below as NOS somehow? What is the part number stamped into the casting?

Interesting bit of info from a post years ago .......

It was only made that one year though, then they went to the oval. That one version rectangular with the big water tube also uses the stronger bolt pattern then the earlier rectangular ones and accepts the earlier tuners as well as the one it came with (dual bolt pattern). The SST120 came with a variety of 1pc adaptors as well, and they can be adapted to run on a 2.4 or 2.5 with the larger exhaust outlets. The Promax 225 Offshore and 15" SS also came with an unusual oval tuner some years. It is narrower and shorter then the 260 tuners. And the Promax 200 SS came with the SST120 size openings in its 1pc.

The Marles conversion approach is proven but there is a big missing link to it. It's really not designed for cool Northern water temp zones never mind 12 month running in those type of waters. Here in the Northeast I can run 10 months of the year easy. I normally take a Christmas Eve spin in fact but today it's raining. Our water temps in Long Island Sound to Rikers Island will swing 30 degrees over a 12 month year. There is no way you can manage to that and keep your engine alive without T-stats and Poppet. Now, if you are in Texas or Florida it might be a different story but you better check your temp swings in the zone you boat in or your steel bore motor WILL have something to tell you.

Yeah, now I can use the good tuner and have good temerature control all year with less tweaking needed. I will post this spring when the engine is fully assembled and running.

    Hi,

Do you need any other mods on the block done for water drains etc? I would like to do this on my 2.5 200. So can i Just swap the 2 pièce plate by this plate and done?

The adapter I have is different. It's off a Bp. Is this ok too?

    Thanks

The modifcations made to the one piece adapter like above should allow the powerhead cooling system to work (and drain) in its normal configuration other than the telltale discharge, which now comes directly off the thermostat discharge.

A random bit of info I stumbled on..............

I had a Promax with a 1 piece plate and later went to a 260. The promax plate definately had smaller exhaust openings, the water dump holes were a lot smaller, and it had smaller studs that mounted to the swing arm. The studs for the tuner mount were the same as the 260 so any 2.5 tuner should mount up.
