    1976 hydrostream viper

I just picked up a viper for near nothing! getting my garage cleared out then gonna start on it. looking for other viper owners that have restored these, and any tips you have for a newbie boat restorer. I have painted and done body work to cars in past so I have some experience. also, should I try to keep everything original? or kind of customize it?Click image for larger version.

If your going to sell it then i would stay within the factory specified hp rating. I belive the Viper was about 115 or so.

A healthy 150 on a dry boat will get you into the low 80's on a well sorted setup with some stick time. I ran one before stepping up to a 2.5 200 EFI fish motor once I realized that after 2 seasons of playing with setup, I wasn't going any faster with a stock 150. And one of those 13 boats Lynn/Capt. has saved was mine. Welcome to the club....the little boats are fun but they can bite. Good luck!

hey captain, I have lots of work to do on bottom of boat, is it easier to cut off top section of boat, then flip it over to work on it?

No, that is a very last resort. Now that someone removed the rub rail on yours it is easier though. Working up under the deck in the bow is'nt any fun but it beats removing and reattaching the deck.
