Question OMC 90 deg v4 lower vs 60 deg v4 lower

    I have a Johnson GT100 with a standard v4 gear case. I also have a v4 Fast strike gearcase.

other than the shape and slightly lower water pick ups, what is the difference?

is the Fast strike v4 a particularly sought after case?

I AM NOT INTERESTED IN SELLING EITHER CASE AT ALL!!

but just wondering the ballpark values of each? Are they about the same?

    thanks

The looper unit assembles different, it retains the pinion with a bolt from the top not a nut. It will fit a crossflow with a upper drive shaft change and shift rod.

    Thanks for the info.

So if I'm going to put a cone on it anyways does it matter which case to run, performance wise? either case will be just as good as the other?

Installing a cone on a sub 80MPH boat will generally slow you down.

This has had me thinking for years, after I installed the nosecone on my v4 lower I read this and thought I made a mistake.
Last week I had time and a lower without nose cone and lower with.
Here are my results on a viper, I was able to run the motor higher with the nose cone, got better water pressure and lower engine temp.
The nose coned lower was .2mph faster on the same boat, same day. Prop is a Mazco RE3 26pitch.

    68.5 @ 6400rpm with nosecone

The nosecone minimizes the bow lift from trim on big pigs. Vipers don't need much bow lift because they are short and light.

Unless your boat likes stern lift. Mine wont crack 75 without a cone and runs low 80's with one.
