trim pump not going down
I went down to boat today and motor wouldn't go down. I had put steering fluid in it originaly. Now I find out it needs motor oil. Well when I checked the can it had slug on the bottom. Is this normal. The motor runs and it seems to be air bound . I disconnected the up line and it drained out lowering the motor. Then I reversed the lines and ran it up down maybe trying to clean the lines out but it now moves in jerks .any solution or fluid I could use to clean out the system or just go with motor oil. Is this a lost cause ....

Try filling it with a very thin solvent or oil ( transmission fluid works also). Open the bypass valve and run the unit back and forth in both directions. Change or drain the "cleaner" fluid a couple of times before you install fresh oil. Tighten the bypass valve and try it. Sounds like trash in a check valve. This may or may not work but it's a shot at clearing it without a lot of trouble
