Sorry to hear this Gary. I was going to jump right in and say detonation but Nick covered that. Glad I read all the posts before i jumped.

I'd also bet that when it's back together and you index all six. You'll find that #5 is the agressive hole and the engine needs to be timed on that cyl.

Could be a batch of bad gas but I think you would see signs of detonation on the other 5 pistons.

Low octane is not an issue unless they had regular in the premium under ground tanks, but timing is a probable cause.

Next year...., I'm think'n a couple of weeks for parts and it's going back together to finish out the summer......

That should be OK on 93 Octane unless... you had an irregular timing event....

Got a connection in FL that has private stock of 300x parts that has been kind enough to allow me to grab 2 pistons out of his stock pile. Decided to replace #6 as well, little more stuffing on the skirt than I'd like. No sense doing it half a$$ since it's already apart. Wiseco pistons have been used by some but never heard anything good about them, pistons from Merc are no longer available.

Thanks Geoff, parts are on order should have them in a week. I'll start to hone the cylinders tomorrow in advance of the rings getting here. If all goes well, I'll be up and running in a couple of weeks.
