    75 johnson stinger (need help)

I have found a 75 hp johnson stinger to go on my project 11ft checkmate playmate. The model is 75ELR79R
It still has the cowling on it thast says stinger. Other than that how can I make sure it is in fact a stinger I didn't know if someone could have just put that cowling on. Any info or advice would be great. I am supposed to go get it Saturday. Thanks in advanced

    Mod # says 1979 , long shaft (20") 75 hp.
All 75's in 79 came badged as stinger.
to verify that powerhead is original,
Look on top of block, just behind (aft) of flywheel for mod / serial # plug.
these #s should be the same as mod/sr plate.

Note: this engine came w/ a 7-1/2" tuner, great bottom end/mid range. short pipe, (15" motor) will give a few hundres more rpm on top end.

Thanks for the info.I guess that brings up another question. I am a recent johnson con-vert. I understood these were some hot little outboards. I have a 50 hp 85 model that I was gonna trade for this engine. Is it worth the trade performance wise for the checkmate. The mount on the 50 is to wide for the transom because of the tilt and trim pump. That's the one thing I'm gonna lose. Would the swap be worth it.

IF it is a Stinger, it would be worth it just because those motors are hard to find now.... a great motor with plenty of umph............... If it has the hi-po lower, even better.............
