Keep working with Monty and you will get the big bore carbs working great. I know that Al Stoker and I made my big bores run perfect. No mid lean spot and can idle all the way through the channel at Havasu without missing a beat. carbs are the simplest and most reliable fuel system on the planet. Injection is great but way expensive.

I had other things I needed to care of yesterday and today, I will hack at it again tomorrow....
if you want to go that route
you might want to install a data logging system first EGT and LAMDA versus RPM and MAP
use that for an entire season to get a reference to tune against
but like stv said it,s quite an investment and time consuming

For now that's definetely what I'm doing.

Interesting but like you said way too time consuming and complex. I'm leaning more towards a bolt on e-tech system or similar options. Monty would definetely be involved if I go this route.

    Todays update:

I wired and hydraulically hooked up the trim tabs. Thinking I could just use the wiring from the Bennetons was a bad idea and I don't know if it was me or if the solenoid was gone before I even started. Anyways, I got it all figured out and aired out, the tabs works perfect and I am just waiting for a new solenoid to have them all work from the console. I am getting the boat back on the trailer tomorrow so I can haul it over to Monty and have the water testing/tuning done. I think we will rejet and mount a few new power packs as well as coils to get the absolutely max out of these old monsters. The temps are getting lower down here and the water is getting nicer so it is about time to rev it up and shoot for the record. I also cleaned up my gauges and the whole CC but I realize nothing stays new forever. The Livorsi gauges still looks good but it sure isn't made to last. Oh well, If can get those engines running at max efficiency what is a few new gauges? So just standby for a few more days and I will post some video of the hardest, most powerful two stroke running boat known to mankind. Again, thanks for following and supporting my build with nice comments and encouraging words of wisdom from you old timers that know exactly what I am going through. Monty is my inspiration, my performance idol, my mentor, and of so much help to me that I will owe him forever.

Today I rode my boat the 2 hour ride from my backyard lift to the ramp, despite a marine Warning, heavy Rain, high winds, Lightning and thunder, and a Tornado warning so it would be ready to haul over to Monty in the morning. However, Boats.net did not stick to their part of the deal and has not delivered the parts I ordered, and paid extra for, for expeditious shipping. I am not a very happy Boats.net customer right now. I even called and verified that they would overnight it on Thursday..... If the parts don't show up tomorrow we will have to delay until next week.

Just talked to Monty. We delayed the tuning until Saturday. But it's getting there. Two complete ignition systems and a set of jets is awaiting his magic.

The right motor was a little lazy so I left the boat with Monty for him to waken it up.

spending the day with Monty is just such a pleasant experience. I am so impressed by his knowledge and ability to find faults, adjust, and get the most of the motors. I have one more day with him for final tuning and I can't wait. I am learning so much from this it's insane. He might be tired of all my questions but I just can't stop sucking knowledge from this guy. My next step is to have him make my motors E-techs with custom ignition, but that will be next year as it ain't, and shouldn't be, free. Pending on the speed we will achieve there might be one more on the back.....

4 Monty built V8s... This thread is the reason OPEC decided not to reduce quotas last week.

I think they based it on me having three, that's fuel usage enough right there.... But ya know, it's a hobby that also can be enjoyed by the whole family, can be used for fishing trips (and I need to go about 20 miles for big fish), can be used for personal vendettas, and has enough issues to keep my mind occupied searching for ideas to solve them. So looking at the big picture, I burn 100.000 gallons of fuel every month for work so a few gallons on the dinghy really ain't that bad.

Another, and hopefully last, tuning/testing run tomorrow at Monty. He just text me and confirmed all three are running top notch, I can't wait.... heading over in the morning and plan to return with the dinghy after a few test runs over there.
