150 Crossflow to 225 Looper Upgrade
I currently have an 89 Rude 150Xp crossflow, the motor runs real good and has 95psi compression in all cyl's. Im looking to upgrade. Found a decent deal on 99 looper carb 225 that number 2 piston is burned up, the other 5 cyls have between 100-105 psi compression. Im just torn weather its worth it to make the move to the looper or just go through and freshen up the crossflow I have and put other heads on it and some mild porting to bring the hp up some. Havent really seen much info on here about the late 90s loopers. Anyone have any input? thanks in advance.

Granted you'll gain a bit of weight, is 100hp worth it? You may as well update the ports to 250 spec if your going through it anyway.

Do the looper-lots more power and it will compensate for the extra weight....

I understand the extra cubes will use more fuel, but how much more fuel efficient than the crossflows?

I went from a mildly modded GT175 to a Venom 200, mileage with either engine wasn't anything to write home about, but the 200 Looper was just a great motor. My Eagle 150 makes gas compared to them.

Just curious if anyone knows what the part number is for the wiring adapter to use a 95+ motor with the older controls. Id like to use my old controls and I know I have read somewhere in the past that Bombardier makes an adapter.
thanks

I went from a 150 crossflow to a 2.7 200 looper. Huge difference in power. You should definitely go for it.

I went from a 150 X-Flow to the 225 Looper, and I think the Looper used LESS gas. Also found a harness for the looper with the red plug, new, for $60 on Ebay. Loopers can also be modified to put out quite respectable power, and are way more durable than the Merc counterpart. I'm having one modified right now, myself. You can easily get 270 -290 Hp out of them, with basic porting done by someone that knows what they're doing. See the thread "Sam Jenkins, one of the good guys".

Anyone have any input on the cooling mods, Im pretty sure number 2 burning up was caused by a cooling issue. I have done a search and really havent found any detailed information on it.
