That about sums it up perfectly. I too never could master the V-hull performance and my first was the 98 STV Euroski. Great boat and nothing comes close with it's size and power and eaze to drive. Then the 21 Skater which shines in rough water at 75mph and up. But it's very tricky to drive especially on the river where I boat. The Skater needs open water to run... or at least a bigger river than where I did my boating. MY presnt 22 Cougar MTR fits our boating style perfectly. For all around family fun go with a center pod hull. If your BLASTING all day then the Skater.

It does not stay there, just a 2" by 3" bracket made of stainless steel. Then when you need it, it just slides down the bracket. You can't see it unless I tell you that it's there. Chuck

I have a Motion 25' and love it, but for a lake or river boat I would consider something with a center pod or tunnel tab. My Motion is great at speeds less than 60 or greater than 90 mph. From 60-90 it is no fun. So consider what kind of boating you will do.

I can drive through the hop zone, but you can't drive in it.

I wanted to try a true tunnel and love it for how smooth it is going fast, but my next boat will be a DCB 22 or something similar. I don't boat in the ocean. The best advice I can offer is find someone will to take you out or let you try one of each.

    Anyway my two cents worth.

One of the few posts that is accurate on this thread. I have owned 12 cats. I/O, single O/B, twin O/B and triple O/B. True cats all have a hop at the transition speed. Pods boats for the most part do not hop. True cats are better in the rough and a little better top end. 100 mph and less on lakes the pod boats are a dream.

    I second that Brad

My boat will have nearly zero hop
if i am carefull w the trim, letting the speed naturally lift the
boat as it begins to pack air... takes a little longer than trimming up
and living thru the hop, but thats how I roll Love love love my
cat, will never go back to a v bottom, much easier to drive, just have to be careful
    w turns.

I REALLY wanted one of those a couple of years ago, but again, never rode in one. I turned a buddy onto one and he is supposed to be buying it soon, so I'll get my first experience there too.

Drive them both. You don't buy a new car without test driving it. A boat in most cases is more expensive and owned longer.

There are neither a Skater nor a Talon within' ANY kind of distance to me. Thus my problem. I know of a 21 Skater on the Mississippi, but I don't know him well enough to ask and it's not the same boat anyway.

Otherwise you bet, it'd be a no brainer as far as making my mind up. It's just unfortunate that in this part of the midwest outboards are not the norm as well as these style of boats unless it's a Chris Cat or Eliminator with 525 or better I/O's.
