I'm surprised that the late John Wright has not been mentioned in this thread. I don't follow outboard drag racing that closely, but from what I know, he's been the quickest and fastest through the quarter in a wacker.......mid 7s/150+? And being from the West Coast, I'd also have to throw Dave Bush's name out there. Not only a great driver, but built the highest horsepower motors of anyone - and I've heard that from some of the best engine builders in the business.

Based solely on most titles and/or trophies: (My opinion is based on the last 10 to 15 years. 20 years gets back a little to far for me...LOL)

    Jerry Pettifer
    Doc Tripp

You'd have to consider guys that were in it during the heyday and still currently racing............Shane Stovall, Ray Leach.......

When I first started going to the races @ 1998ish....guys like Glen Reynolds, Key Puckett, and Dewitt would all commonly win multiple classes. They did that for many years.

If we're talking most dominant: I'd have to go

Lot's of guys that race outboards will not be mentioned in this discussion because rope racing ain't racing.

I was young and bashful back then.
Today,...I'd just knock on her door,..hand her the crab dope, and say, "Rub summa this on ya booger. I'll be back day after tomorrow".

I think Galen Burden deserves mention here. He was always a strong racer and created a lot of strong racers. If Galen was involved the boat was certainly a contender.

yessir......forgot Darrin in my post above. He was there when I first started watching races. Remember him running and winning in the superstock class back in the day.

6killer posting reminded me of the old pro120 class that he dominated. So add Chris Ray to the pile.

Darrin's record is very impressive as is alot of the other guys that where mentioned. But if I had to pick one I would have to agree with Hullbilly24's first post. I would give it to Jerry Pettifer. If you look at over the last 20 years and combine his own personal boat and the one's that have raced out of his shop, with him building the motors, setting up the boats, and building the props, I dont think anybody else can come close to Jerry's Marine's record. If you start from the early 90's I dont know how many race wins Stanley Fitz had in 1600 mod.,1400 mod. and super stock but it was abunch and abunch of high points championships and Jasper wins. That was Jerry's handy work. Then you get to Chris Comolander in unlimited he had a lot of wins and high points championships, Albert Broussard was another unlimited boat that came out of Jerry's camp and won alot. That was all before Marty Logan started getting Jerry to build his motors and we all know how that turned out. He worked alot with Phillip Hollis, Lynn Griffith, Web Dusell, Maxium,Jed,Shawn Jetton, and I havent even mentioned his own boats yet. His lake racer bullet went un-beaten for several years and his modified boat speakes for itself. Everybody that was mentioned before are all great racers and have won there fair share of races and titles. But I think if you take the original question of who was the best over the last 20 years the Jerry's Marine camp has that covered by a long way. Alot of it has to do with there dedication over the last 20 years to this crazy sport we all love so much.

87 wins in 20 years is basically like winning 4.5 races a year for the next 20 years. So now days you would have to go to every race held in the country and win half of them for the next 20 years. And thats very impressive because the Missouri Missle hasnt ran in at least the last 10 prolly closer to 15.
