who has gps / chart plotter in small boat >20'

Hello everyone.. let me say i love the site and all the resources here.

So i am thinking of getting a gps / chart plotter and know very little.

I have a small 17' that is like to put it in and also hook up to my gps speedo.

    Any suggestions? Preferred models?

Pics of an install in small boats would be great.

Also how do these work is it similar display as in car gps? Does it give depths?
