    Angry 3.0 250 merc wont rev up past 2000 r.p.m timing goes haywire

    hello i have a 1997 merc 3.0 try to rev it up and it falls on its face . scanner says every thing checks out ok but it must be missing somthing ckecked the timing and it was going all over at 2000 r.p.m.. 2 different marinas been over throwing parts at this thing still no go it will idle rough when you try to rev it up no go. what would cause the timing to go crazy the t.p.s. or crank senser. maybe the stater please help

    Mine did same thing. Stator fixed it. It is an easy resistance check with the ohm meter at the plug.

    checked fly wheel key was ok stater has six pins 3 are 1100 oms 2 are 1080 1 is 982 the manual says 1100 ohms plus/minus 10 percent is the 982 to far out there? is there a low side and a high side of this stater?

    You have a coil that Is breaking down . Get a Good coil and swap it out 6 times . Should run fine when you find the bad one ,
