Top bearing question
True or false.....On a runing engine that is trimed in or out to far does the flywheel try to bend the top of the crank to run level?

I agree.
As the boat moves off level, gyroscopic precession tries to bend the crank. As long as the boat/engine remains stable in any plane, there is not a precessional load.
When we do a lot of hard aerobatics the gyros in the Avionics really take a beating from the precessional forces....

Man ..I know I left that stash from 1987 somewhere around the garage !!
Ii'm sure the forces are there but are overcome by the strength and mass of the crank and the slight change in angle ." The Fleet of Old Boats "

May tha force be wit ya!!!!......

I have no idea of how great the force is compared to how "stout" the bearing assembly was designed, since I am still trying to get my IQ up into a positive number.... I just wanted to point out the precessional force occured any time the gyroscopic action of the flywheel changed planes, not when it was at a constant tilt.

We do know the heavier the flywheel the more stress is placed on the crank and bearings due to the gyro effect of the spinning mass.(One of the benefits of a lighter flywheel) If you hold a gyro while it is spinning, and change the position you can feel the force of the spinning mass change.
