Folks, just an update....I ran 91 mph even today using a borrowed 28" promax prop. This was at 7000 rpm and I'm still running the big fat gear case even with the pad. The boat liked this prop a lot, holeshot was good with minimal blowout, and it only porpoises a couple of times and was easily over the hump.

This is is so bizarre to me:
    30" bravo1, 3/4" above: wouldn't even get on plane
    24" bravo1, 3/4" above: 67 mph porpoising
    26" bravo1, 0" and 3/4" above: 77 mph porpoising
    27" blaster, 0": 88 mph
    28" promax, 0": 91 mph

I'm still at around 15% slip. I know the engine has to come up to free up more speed, but it also might increase slip and I'm right under the rev limiter now. I'm thinking the max5 is the prop I need and raise the engine an inch +/-. I don't know how much the slip will change with 5 big blades, but that would affect whether I need a 26 or a 28.

Never gonna turn a 32. If he can get the slip down, he'd be at 100 with a 30"

Good progress! I can't wait to see what the Max5 brings. Your slip will go down with the extra blade, and the larger diameter of the Max5 over the ProMax should allow you to raise the engine and keep the same amount of blade in the water.

How was the porpoising with the ProMax? Planing? Handling?
A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...

The Promax prop did the trick for this boat. Planing was relatively uneventful and I don't know if it got 2 or 3 hops in between 65 and 75 mph. Honestly, if I didn't know there was more speed in it I would be totally happy with the boat just as it sits and probably not mess with it anymore (well, for a while at least).

That's great to hear. For whatever reason the ProMax just doesn't seem to get the respect it deserves. It's really hard to beat especially considering the price and the warranty.

By chance, does anyone have a 28" or 30" max5 they would be willing to loan, rent, or rent to own?

Update: I raised the engine one bolt hole, now 1" above the pod. 93.5 mph, gps with the 28" promax. I also found some oddities in the bottom, namely a hook. The pod is not only raked by about 3 deg, but it also is concave 1/8-1/4". There may be some speed in bottom modifications but honestly, I'm pretty happy with it now.

Ok folks, I got under the boat and measured the hook. It's about 1/8" and starts 4-5" ahead of the transom. See [sideways] pic.
