A guy named Chuck who was my former employers co-owner back in the 70's built the first one, The V-8 in a sand rail. Many OMC reps came to see it one day, why I have no idea. They raced mini hydos back in the day with Chucks wicked engineering on 70-75 hp Evinrudes. Sadly Chucks need for speed did him in on a crotch rocket three or four years ago.

Hi All
Well the financial restrictions have released a bit so I am off again to build the two stroke powered race car again, using a OMC, Mercury, or ? engine.
I THINK I have settled on to the 60 degree V6 - 3.4ltr (300V6 - XS) DFI engine. Its difficult to select without knowing all the tech details - where do/can you find these?
So, does anybody know the location of a suitable engine. All I need is the engine plus parts to make it work. I dont need any of the "Boat" bits i.e. prop or boat mountings.

I understand, if the two stroke needs to get built, then it needs to get built! But if something different is what you're after then try on one of these www.CHRFAB.com and make some cool power!

I got a call the other day from a guy in Australia wanting me to build him a powerhead for him to use in a land speed car!
Said they found a sweet spot in the rules for a 3.0 liter V-6 first and then a 4.0 liter V-8.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Rick Gilmans V8 with the blower ran real good but would not spin up as high as he wanted it to. Note Ricks V8s see have seen 10,000rpm on a regular bases. The blower shaft broke and the lack of rpm is why he scrapped the idea. Rick is a guy that has always done what everyone has said can't be done and some how he seems to makes it work.

Years ago built V4 Johnrudes for midget cars. Held 8 track records at one time or another. Ran them on methanol to help keep them cool but at the end of a 50 lap main the overheat light would be glowing. Engines were run without a flywheel, they had a gear with a belt to a mag.

Back in the day, I was in class at an OMC training center just after the Cobra had come out. I made the suggestion that OMC should take the V8 two stroke powerhead, fuel inject it and use that for stern drive power instead of a car engine. Should have seen the look on the instructors face. He thought that was a cool idea.
