115 Etec HO Rigging
What is the approximate cost to rig a boat for an Etec engine? My brothers are thinking of replacing my 1992 Johnson with a new 115 HO (I'd be in for some of cost). I just bought a new throttle last year. Can it be used?
We have one quote of $3000, which includes replacing the secondary gages. This cost seems high, based on a casual internet search.

The control box is the same but the main harness is different, the gauges can be reused.

3 grand is ridiculous. I have a harness, and I think I paid 100 bucks for it new. If it will work for the 115 & you want it let me know.

Check out the Evinrude sales promotion that is going on now. A free 5 year warranty and free rigging gauges and controls - depending on engine model.

David, why considering selling that good 'ol crossflow? Is it still running well?

John, it is a good running crossflow. However last year I put on 10+ pounds and it would not pull me out with two feet in the slalom bindings. I've taken the weight off, and if was all my money, I'd just put an Ally foil on it and call it good. My brothers are substantially heavier and pull out on two skis, but would prefer to pull out on one.
Is the 115 HO enough for my 200 lb brothers? Probably. A 2L 115 J craft pulled my brother out fine with the same prop as my 100.
At any rate, if I only have to put up 1/3 of the money, I'm in for a new motor.

We got two more quotes today, and the pricing is looking better all the time.

Thats high, even without the promo a standard gauge package rigging kit is about $1000 and a good tech can do the job in a day.

For a 16' Baja, 115HO is enough. The Baja is supposed to be a safe sane boat that my brother's kids won't get in trouble in.
It's interesting how the numbers have converged. Used to be the high volume dealers got better pricing. Now it seems everyone is within a couple of hundred bucks. I've got the high rigging price down by removing gages and fuel/water separator that I don't need. Some of the rest of the high price is two cases of oil or one case and a spare aluminum prop.
I'm thinking we need the ICON gages ie two basic 3.5 inch gages. My brother would like to economize further by re-using the old gages. Advice?

With the 2 ICON PRo gauges you really don't need others. With the other kit, you get a SystemCheck tach and can use your other old gauges.
