Was that AMW a mechanical fuel injection unit? They had all kinds of cool stuff back then, would be neat to see it on the water again.

Hi Lasse the man stood in the picture next to Cees boat with the thick sideburns was my old friend Pete Bolton he was from the Cotswold fairford club he was the official starter for the Bristol race and was always up on the crane with the start flag and the TV cameras always showed him dropping the flag for the start. Now back to the 2.0 OMC Looper engine we all had these for the 1976 Paris 6hr race I am sure 8 were entered I was teamed up with the French driver Didier Jeausomme who had won the paris 6 race previously and we drove a Cougar picklefork. This was the same boat that James Beard drove at Windemere with the Evinrude Rotary in 1973 and Sanders and Posey drove it with a Johnson 2.0 crosssflow engine in the 1975 Paris 6hr race and myself and Jeausomme drove it with a Evinrude 2.0 litre Looper in the 1976 Paris 6hr race.Click image for larger version.

Hi John you need to persuade Nerstrom into writing that book about his time presiding over the race engines and his good development work at the OMC Factory.I do believe the first 2.0 looper was used by Cees Velden to win the 1975 ON World championship at Cardiff. The next time I saw the 2.0 Loopers race in Europe was in 1976 at the next ON world championship my good friend South African Bill Badsey ran with one in this race and had a serious blow over in his Cougar cat he broke his back was hospitalised and checked himself out after a week bought 3 tickets on a Jumbo to carry his stretcher on and had to pay a nurse to accompany him back to South Africa. The good news was he was back racing in Europe within 6 months. In 1977 the factory race support changed to the larger OZ engines and that was all we used from 1977 on.I am posting this on my cousins site as mister h my own site will not recognise my own password.Good to see you still keep up to date on this site.--- regards Steve Pinson. Have posted more piccis of that Cougar cat from my previous post.

More fun pictures and memories from Paris 6 Hours 1978.

    <abbr title="2016-04-28T16:03:32+0200" class="updated"></abbr>
I got this picture from the pit just below the Eiffel tower at river Seine.
Interesting because the red #16 Molinari boat is using one of the first OMC 3 liter, looper V6 with fuel injection and Johnson RS cowling.
The drivers of the #16 is Johnny Sanders and Jimbo McConnell.

Who remembers the 3 cylinder "CC" FR19S Evinrude? It was the little brother to the V6 CCC.
In Australia during the 1970's, the CC always kept the Merc boys on their toes.
