I have seen the dead manatees killed by the cold water brought into the boat ramp where they tie them up. (and do they stink). By the time they get reported in the news, the things are cut from one end to the other. Looking like prop marks. But mysteriously they have no skeg marks to go along with the other cuts. Sumptin sneaky def going on here.

In your particular case we think 12" would be best ... Why would you wanna put your boat on a airplane anyway?

Yup! Probly seen a hundred pics of Manatee with prop scars. Never a skeg.

According to their benefactors the Manatee is a cousin of the Elephant. Who we all know never forgets. They also like to say Manatee have keen eyesight & hearing and posess the intelligence of a Dolphin. Hmm.

Fwiw the Dolphin I've spoken with recently are extremely offended by this generalization ...

I was flipping through the channels this morning. Landed on a kids show when something that looked like a manatee came into view. They start on our kids early. The whole kids' show was about manatee rehabilitation and to be released into the wild after they recovered from being hit by an evil boat. With a power plant in the back ground no less.

The manatee in the pic on post 29 was struck by the prop of a large commercial vessel. The fuel barges that run up and down the St. Johns and other florida rivers probably hurt and kill more manatees than anything else. But, try convincing a bunch of enviro extremeists that those slashes did not come from a standard size outboard prop.

This is the actual truth. If saving the manatee was the real intent they would outlaw cold weather and red tide.

Brett, even your LCB can't out run the plane and the motorola...... I just obey the rules and hope they get bored with all the compliant boaters and go some place to hassle other boaters.... It is getting harder all the time, just staying out of the laws way. New radar guns to check for 25 mph in the channel? Their really getting desperate to write tickets now.....Will your boat go as slow as 25mph and stay on plane?

Chaz said what I was going to say as I read this thread. At least on the east coast of Florida, it isn't first and foremost a revenue thing. It is an excuse for wealthy waterfront folks, often condo commandos, to slow down those big, noisy boats they don't want around.

It is hilarious to head up the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. It is an almost completely wild, full of oxbows, beautiful old Florida river that runs right through the town of Port St. Lucie. But there are one or two place s where a housing community touches on the river, or there is a condo or apartment house. Sure enough, those are the Manatee zones. Go figure--I guess the manatees are attracted to the docks?
    Per Rock:

"Once I bought my first Hydrostream boating changed forever for me."

    Per my hero Instigator:

"I try not to let common sense interfere w/my boat buying decisions."

I would never wish ill will on an any animal. Even a Manatee. But 'protecting' them has gotten a lil outa hand?

FPL aka Florida Plunder & Loot charges customers to keep this invasive species warm'n cozy in football field size hot tubs. Replete with 'viewing stations', read: bleachers. So's they can indoctrinate the uninformed tourista.

Doug, When I was still down there we were told manatees (we called 'em sea cows back in the day) were imported because they eat the water hyacinth that was clogging up the canals in Port Charlotte. Oh well, maybe the Burmese Pythons will start feeding on 'em....
OK, I got down off the porch and ran with the big dogs....kinda sore now....think I'll just lay here in the flowerbed for a while...
