For the record Mr. Vanderwall...you don't know me, have never met me. Perhaps you should before you feel you have the right to address me by my last name.
In addition, for the record, YOU and your E-Tec groupies have been the ones claiming that your engines are stock. You are also the same ones bragging that your "stock" Etec engines can and regularly do beat up on the "old school" Mercs, at any venue and any time.
I poke fun at this, and obviously it gets your goat, because you're trying to have your cake and eat it too--and you must feel that everyone in the performance outboard community but you is stupid, because you can't see that everyone is on to your dumb game. You brag and wheeze that your "stock" engines are so superior to the "old crap" Mercs, yet when you lose to them (as evidenced by the last Blarney race), you whine and complain that the Mercs have/use all these non-stock parts and so therefore, somehow, it's unfair. You can't have it both ways. Last I looked, noone I know can go to an Evinrude dealer and buy, off the showroom floor, a 16" shaft open-exhaust E-tec "DRAG" that also has God knows what other modifications. It's all a big secret, of course--noone can know what's inside these "stock" engines but you. Why should I have to "make up my mind" as to whether they're stock or not? Why don't you just SHOW us?
And finally, for the record: I have nothing against E-Tec engines or BRP. I have been an Evinrude fan since a very young age, so this is not an E-Tec bashing post. My writing in BWB should prove that. I think they are wonderful, technologically superior engines and have and do applaud BRP for continuing to push them against the rising tide of Opti and 4stroke engines. In addition, I have never said anything cross about you OR your E-Tec groupies. The fact that you feel the need to come out swinging an axe every time someone pokes fun at you speaks volumes about who you and your group are, and what you're about.

The M case isn't bad, it just isn't designed for high speed applications. Thats all.

With a cone it will work fine surfaced. The case is fine, just not as good as the L or L2 cause its bullet is physically wider. The bullet is smaller on the Lightning, which makes it a better high speed case. On a large heavy boat, the M may actually work better surfaced cause it may lift more.

Can we have this discussion somewhere else? I hate this thread....Larry Gempp Jr.

I have an M1 on my 150 Johnson, and it drives so much better than the old stock case, hands down. I'd cone it and go in a heartbeat if I was doing an Etec on a performance boat.

Whats involved to raise the limitter on the 250ho? Also does the Lightning case have paint and bondo as a coned lower or just all aluminum? One more Q can you put a SM on a 16inch Taylor mid?

1. It cannot. 2. You can use either one or both to cone it. 3. Yes, they make a mid (OMC to SM)

Back to the original topic...why has nobody taken a 250 honor the showroom floor...and a 250xs off a showroom floor and put them on identical boats and run them side by side yet...or has this actually been done but the results are top secret? Lol
It's amazing the arguments this topic creates..doesn't someone have a marina with one of each motor and 2 of he same boat just to do an honest apples to apples test to settle the dispute once and for all?Took me a year to figure out how to change the signature...guessing im kinda e-retarded
