Were working on that, when this boat/motor combo is finally set up correctly, I will put money on it that it will kick butt over the 200 mercury. No doubt in my mind!! Peace

You Illinois guys always do things the hard way..
Allison XB2002 - check
Mercury 200XS - check
30" Lightning ET prop - Check
10" setback... give or take - check
1 hour to dial er in - check
100MPH no problemo - check
Your way -
XB 2002 - check
200 ETEC - Check
3,657 propellers to try - check
Setback - ??? with all that weight, definitely less than ten
4 summers of playing with it to make it work - check
Speed - ??? dunno, left off = poopy pants.
I think that you guys are drinking some good KoolAid that Brett is serving up there. Tell Larry that means him too. I'm just kidding around cause I'm bored and it is cold. Don't get mad at me, cause I really do hope you get it dialed in. Competition is a good thing!

Good to know their will soon be other real world users of these motors. Having a DFI system and powerhead PROVEN to 8000 rpm is reassuring, fuel economy, when measured against performance IS exceptional IMHO. Extensive endurance/durability testing is likely a pretty high priority, which trumps the warranty/cost debate if you include actual operating/maintenance/repair costs. 381 engine hours, 4987 litres of fuel, 175 liters of oil, gear oil, fuel/air filters, impeller, vst gaskets. That is an average of 13.1 litres/hr fuel, .46 litres/hr oil and some preventative maintenance costs. Good luck with your new ROS -SS motors guys. I am not skeptical of the HP claims they seem completely reasonable to me,but what do I know??

I talked to Chris Fairchild about these motors the other day and he said they put out 240 on a crankshaft dyno. He's estimating they're about 220 at the propshaft. What he did say though is that the torque curve is much broader than the Gen I 2.5s (either 225 or 260/280), so they "feel" much stronger than their peak horsepower figures might suggest. He said they pull real hard from about 3,000 all the way to the rev limiters (which is 8,000 on the SST powerheads he is dynoing). They surely aren't going to be any comparison to a set of 280s when it comes to all out performance, but I'm looking forward to them being pretty strong with exceptional fuel economy (and the convenience of oil injection).

I was speaking to my dealer and he indicated that a 225X puts out 252. If the GenII is 220 that is a little dissapointing but man that gas mileage is pretty incredible. Thanks for the feedback.

252 at the crank would sound about right. I'm quite certain a 225X would not be 252 at the propshaft, as those motors are not known to be that close in performance to a 260 or 280 (both rated at the propshaft). I don't doubt that a 225X would produce a slightly bigger # at top end than a 200XS, but from what Chris told me, a 225XS would outdo it everywhere else (and get almost double the mileage doing it!). I'm not buying these motors for pure performance, as they are going on the boat I'm building for every day pleasure boating.

Good point and the reality is that you will use the 200XS GenII powerband 90% of the time versus top speed. I am going to have the 225X dyno'd for kicks. Here is a price sheet from 2005 and a 280 print for kicks.

The 200xs will not come close to the HP numbers of a 280 at 7000 rpm and while torque comparisons are very relevant, so to is fuel consumption/output,
refinement throughout the powerband and durability/longevity.

Started a new thread about a specific new fuel additive being tested in canada and how it was to be unveiled to the USA by a specific marine supplier at the miami boat show. The new thread appeared in low emissions outboard section, received 12 views, then POOF I had been eliminated. In a couple months SPEED JR your ET's might improve then we will know for sure if this STUFF works.

Are there two different powerhead versions from Merc of the 200XS GenII offering ?
