I got my deposit in on 9/22 for a pair of them. I was told at the time that the deadline was mid October - I guess Merc extended it a few weeks. Was also told they would deliver in April, not the end of May. This announcement looks to be the final word though.

Man...$18k for a 200-horse outboard. Guess I'm getting old. I sound like my Dad..."I paid $4417.26 in 1978 for a Vandal, 140 Johnson and Trailer".

My great GrandPappy bought a bag of sugar for 2 bits in 1942!

    But Yeah.... $18k for a 200 seems steep! :-)

18k is steep indeed, in 1984 my dad paid 5600 for a brand new 200.

These are outstanding performers from idle to wot. very smooth/effortless at higher rpms, excellent fuel consumption #'s as well. I ran a 200 hp 2.5 for 19 years before ordering the ROS and have 365+ hours of seat time on it now, this thing is so sweet it is ridiculous. Available and well priced in my opinion!!

and worth every penny after you've stood on the hammer once... more addictive than crack! I still am skeptical of the claims of this motor, would love to hear someones experience on a light hull. Nonetheless, its a great all around dependable motor.

Found out today that I can't get a straight skeg RH gearcase on these motors. My LH will be straight, but they only sell the RH with the torque tab built into the skeg. Lisa said that these are all sold as RH for single engine applications (UIM Class 3C) and they just don't offer this engine with a RH straight skeg gearcase (knowing this, I'm surprised they even offer it with a LH gearcase). Sucks for me, as I'll now have some work to do removing material from the skeg to make it straight.

Its easy to cut the torque tab off. Just use a jig saw. I have done plenty of them.

If you put that on your SS, would you race it at Blarney? Is there a class for that motor combo?
